¿Son impermeables los cepillos eléctricos?
Are electric toothbrushes waterproof? Check the rating of the model you choose. An IPX7-rated handle is tested for temporary immersion, commonly described for a small handle as one meter of water for 30 minutes. That rating does not automatically cover the charging base or authorize shower use. Here is how to read the rating, keep the right parts dry and care for your brush around water.
- An IPX7-rated handle is tested for temporary immersion in one meter of water for 30 minutes under the specified conditions.
- IPX7 covers temporary immersion. For shower use or rinsing under the tap, follow the model’s instructions; do not leave the brush soaking for hours.

What “Waterproof” Actually Means for an Electric Toothbrush
“Waterproof” and “water resistant” do not describe unlimited protection. For an electric toothbrush, look at the IP rating and the manufacturer’s instructions: splash, water-jet and immersion protection are assessed under different test conditions. IPX7 describes temporary immersion.
De dónde procede la clasificación IPX7
IP ratings are defined in the International Electrotechnical Commission standard IEC 60529. The second numeral describes protection against water. IPX7 covers temporary immersion, commonly described for a small handle as one meter for 30 minutes. “X” means that a protection level against solid objects is not specified in this code. An IPX7 rating does not state a dust-protection level or, by itself, establish third-party certification.
¿Son impermeables los cepillos eléctricos? Explicación de la escala IPX
IPX4 covers splashing water, IPX5 and IPX6 cover water jets, and IPX7 and IPX8 cover immersion under defined conditions. An immersion rating does not automatically include protection against jets.
An IPX7-rated electric toothbrush has protection against temporary immersion under the specified test conditions. For rinsing or shower use, check the manufacturer’s instructions; the rating alone does not cover water jets, hot steam or prolonged soaking. Keep the charger away from wet areas.
Cómo se verifica realmente una clasificación IPX7
An IPX7 claim should be supported by testing to IEC 60529. For a small toothbrush handle, the immersion conditions are commonly described as one meter for 30 minutes. After testing, the product is inspected and assessed against the applicable ingress, function and safety criteria. Checking only whether water reached the electronics does not describe the complete acceptance criteria.
A failed immersion test can result from design, materials or assembly. Check the housing seams, drive-shaft seal, charging port and button membrane. Validate the sealing design before mass production and control its consistency during assembly.
Our production controls include 100% line inspection, with sealing checks defined in the control plan alongside battery aging, drop resistance and motor-frequency consistency. The reliability program uses the IPX7 immersion method in GB 4208-2017: one meter of water for 30 minutes, followed by inspection and assessment against the applicable criteria. Destructive sample inspection and checks on every saleable unit are separate stages. Our reliability laboratory has logged more than 450 test items over nine months, including a 72-hour full-unit operation test with a waterproofing recheck every 24 hours, one-meter drops onto six faces per GB/T 2423.7-2008, and 48-hour salt spray per GB/T 2423.17-2008. These reports document the tested model and conditions for buyers.
You can use an electric toothbrush in the shower if its manufacturer permits this for your model. IPX7 alone does not establish protection against shower jets or hot steam. Check the instructions before making shower brushing part of your routine.
Keep the charging base outside the wet area and charge in a dry location. Never place the brush on a plugged-in base in the shower. If shower use is permitted, follow the model’s cleaning and drying instructions; repeated exposure to hot steam and soap can affect the finish and seals.
The handpiece, charging base, port and accessories can have different protection ratings. Check each component separately, particularly these areas:
- Rinse, do not soak. Rinse the brush head after use. Rinse the handle only as allowed by its instructions, then remove excess water.
The American Dental Association recommends rinsing a toothbrush after use and storing it upright to air-dry. For an electric handle, charging port and seals, follow the model’s care instructions as well.
For OEM and private-label buyers, a documented IP rating makes water protection a clear product feature. Answer questions such as “are electric toothbrushes waterproof” and explain the model’s permitted uses on its product page. Support the claim with a test report that matches the handle and configuration you sell.
- Offer a suitable water-resistant travel case for travelers, with its own documented protection level.
- Match the feature to the customer. Explain water protection for travel and bathroom use. Promote shower use only for models whose instructions permit it.
The standard MOQ for customized products is 1,000 units, with flexibility depending on the order; wholesale orders for available stock start at 50 units. Prototype samples are ready in 3–7 days and mass production takes 25–35 days after sample approval. The factory is ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified and has FDA establishment registration. We can provide CE, RoHS, FCC and UKCA documentation as applicable to the model and target market, plus IPX8 test reports for models with that rating.
